Land acquisition

Dear Beloved Community, 

I would like to send you our heartfelt GRACIAS on behalf of CRECE Urban Farms and the Santa Ana community for all of your support throughout the past 9 years!  In particular, many of you stood with us last year through the displacement of our beloved Granjita, our small urban farm at the First Congregational Church in Santa Ana.  Due to the sale of the Church to new ownership, CRECE was forced to relocate. La Granjita will forever be part of CRECE’s story of emergence, as a community project from which we have drawn so many invaluable lessons and have connected with so many people and spaces near and far. I am joyous to announce that we have formed a new partnership with Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Orange, CA, allowing us to relocate our land stewardship work while we identify a permanent home.  We will  develop a half-acre plot on their campus into a thriving demonstration urban farm, thus allowing our community offerings to continue.  

Through this experience, one vital lesson has come to light – in order to transform the local food system, our work must take root in conjunction with long term land tenancy and stewardship.  To this end CRECE has partnered with community land trust THRIVE Santa Ana, and we are calling on our community of support to join, in an effort to raise $3 Million to purchase a permanent home for CRECE Urban Farms! –supporters have helped CRECE launch fundraising efforts with $1,360,000 already secured, including a $1 Million grant from the Sun Family Foundation.  An additional $1,063,500 in land acquisition funds were awarded to CRECE and THRIVE through a federal USDA grant; however, the current administration might attempt to block or pause these funds.  Just last week a federal judge ordered agencies to resume disbursements, though its not clear if the T** administration will comply.  In the meantime, we see this as an opportunity to demonstrate our support for community-based solutions and food systems.
